INBUILT93 Project Coordinator

In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call #93 primarily “calling upon the federal government to advance the knowledge of newcomers to Canada of the diverse Aboriginal peoples of Canada, including information about the Treaties…,” the Saskatchewan Association of Immigrant Settlement and Integration Agencies [SAISIA] and the Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan [AFCS] desires to enter into a partnership agreement to implement a Saskatchewan-wide community engagement project titled INBUILT93 (Indigenous-Newcomer Building Intercultural Learning on Treaties – 93) in 5 Saskatchewan communities of Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, North Battleford, and La Ronge.

The Partners (SAISIA and AFCS) agree that fostering strong connection among allied organizations is important to achieve a socially cohesive society where people live in harmony irrespective of race, colour, religious or cultural beliefs. With the intention to bring together members of both umbrella organizations, the project will be delivered in line with the organizational culture and strategic visioning of the partner organizations.

The INBUILT93 initiative will lead research, intercultural engagement and learning among members of the newcomer and Indigenous communities in select Saskatchewan cities and towns. This is increasingly relevant as all residents of Canada begin to understand the impact of our colonial history on Indigenous people, the stereotypes that exists across cultures, and the need to embrace the multiple identities of Canada through a well-informed process, including newcomer information kit and citizenship test.
